A place to collect all types of Buddha’s teachings from Hinayana and Mahayana (including Tantrayana) Southern & Northern Traditions. With special emphasis on the teachings transmitted down to modern Tibet through generations of disciples and followers of great Lama Tsongkhapa.
Many old dharma books and scriptures were destroyed due to sub-tropical weather condition, which causes scriptures and books to be soiled, tattered and rot. In order to preserve the teachings, we have to either retype the whole sutra or tantric treaties into digital text format or simply republish it.
We also preserve the teachings of highly qualified living masters by videoing or recording into digital media. Currently in our library we have all types of teachings from basic Buddhism to Highest Yoga Tantra, including commentaries and teachings of past Buddhist masters of various Buddhist traditions; e.g. Tibet, China, Thai and Sri Lanka.
The Library of Gaden Shartse plays an important role in keeping track of all major teachings that took place in the Monastery for many decades and by preserving the dharma texts for the future usage. Therefore, video shooting and audio recording of the oral explanative teachings are main function of the library besides digitization of rare and old dharma texts.
The Library undertakes preservation and publishing of manuscripts, books and scriptures mainly in Tibetan
languages. A moderate collection of Tibetan, English and Chinese language titles includes centuries old manuscript, scriptures, Buddhist text written by highly qualified masters.
The Abbot – Khen Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden, department is headed by Geshela and all are elected members of the managing committee.
