The community kitchen of Gaden Shartse provides three meals and drinks every day to more than 1000 monks. It was originally established in early 1970s. Initially it served the community of 85 monks however the number of monks grew steadily many fold for decades.
The community kitchen serves breakfast around 6am, Lunch around 11am, tea around 3pm and Dinner around 5pm. The food served is vegetarian and the young monks take turn in cooking duty. No external employee is employed to maintain and run the community kitchen.
The community kitchen needs regular repairs and replacement of various utensils from time to time. We plan to improve the efficiency of services of the community kitchen by replacing old utensils with new and improved one.
The community kitchen is managed directly by the Administration of Gaden Shartse.
